critical thinking - week 7
I had found the meaning of Media Literacy in Wikipedia."Media literacy is the process of accessing, analyzing, evaluating and creating messages in a wide variety of media modes, genres and forms. "
"It uses an inquiry-based instructional model that encourages people to ask questions about what they watch, see, and read. Media literacy education provides tools to help people critically analyze messages to detect propaganda, censorship, and bias in news and public affairs programming (and the reasons for such), and to understand how structural features -- such as media ownership, or its funding model."
soures from : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Media_literacy
Media literacy are very important to fcm students. It was because it enable fcm students to be skillful creators and producers of media messages. In my opinion, fcm students must have to create something that can tell the people something for example take awareness of something... if us didn't know the media literacy, all the creative things will be not meaningful.
Critical thinking 2 :
In my opinion, Media literacy can helps us to spreads out the messages that we wan to tell the people. For example, a picture that had no messages and meaning totally will not attracts the people. People will always interesting in what the picture try to told that is the messages and meaning.

critical thinking week 6
critical thinking 1After i read the article that uploaded by lecturer, i can understand what stereotype means. Stereotypes can pretty much be considered the same everywhere: simplified, reductive generalizations of an individual or group of individuals. The way a stereotype is experienced varies within media. Stereotypes in cartoons operate in a manner different than most other forms of portrayals due to the images being exaggerated.
Below are the explaination by Friedwald and Beck and Sampson that i took from the article :
Friedwaldand Beckstate that “certainly every form of motion picture, from epic drama to two-reel comedy, presented racial stereotypes, but because the animated cartoon so strongly relies on caricature and exaggeration, it has received a special amount of criticism”. Sampson states that “results from studies by qualified scholars have shown that, in general, stereotyping of another race serves as effective vehicle for others to enhance their own self-esteem and to acquire a sense of personal power and perhaps to reinforce their own feeling of inherent superiority”.
Critical thinking 2
The example of media stereotype that i had been seen before is the disney cartoon " Lilo and Stich". The story of this cartoon in every series was like that: the Hawaiian girl Lilo will met an illegal genetic experiment - that is stich's cousin in each series stories, they will name them used number from 001 to 626. At first, the illigal genetic experiment must catch by Captain Gantu. Then, Lilo and Stich will do their best to catch back the Stich's cousin. Lastly, Lilo and Stich sure will sucessful catch back them. Then at the end, Lilo and Stich will give a job to them depends on their function itself.
Although its story was quite similar in every episod, but i still like it very much. I like to watch what the function of different illgal genetic experiment, they all had a very interesting function and at the end of the story, they will used their special function to do some contribution to the residents in Hawaii that arranged by Lilo.

TOPIC 2 : critical thinking
Critical thinking 1 :I had watched the comic that upload by lecturer this week. This comic was taken from “Introduction to Mass Communication: Media Literacy and Culture" by Stanley Baran, pg 324. I think the meaning of this comic was telling us not to believe too much through the internet. The information in the internet would maybe also be wrong.
But in my opinion, I will not often take the information from internet without thinking so much. This is because we don’t know the information was written by whom. Maybe they wrote that things were just for fun. But yes, maybe the information on the internet will be wrong, but it also have many true information that will be very useful to us in the internet. The information that can’t find in the book we can also find in the internet. If we can find the true information on the internet, it will be saving our time for find information from library. Thus, I will take the information from internet after I truth the information.
Critical thinking 2 :
The another reason for me not to take the information on the internet without thinking is maybe the people nowadays was stress in many things for example work or study and many more. Thus, they like to type something that false or incorrect on the internet. The reason they will do like this was they would like to release their stress. So, check clearly weather the information is right or wrong before take down the information. The way I use to find out the true information is find more related website. If the information in all the website are the same, that means the information was true. In conclusion, check clearly and make sure the information is true before take them from internet.
